MAY SHERIDAN 1997 47FT TRAD £36,950 ****SOLD****

May_Sheridan_Main.jpg

Summary

The 10:6:4 shell was built by Evans and Son of Hixon with a strong personal influence from Mike Heywood to his SU design. The only major change was to reduce the draught from 24” to 18” as the canals were getting shallower even then. Numerous extras included side hatch (plus roof hatch), steel front doors, long ‘Josher’ swims, lift-up rear deck and a 2” wider rear hatch and doors. The Beta 28 and 3:1 gearbox have often been thought unusual for a boat of this size, but like all the extras, have been proven with time. Heating is by diesel fired Eberspacher D4W (new 2009) or from the engine cooling system and 3 radiators have TRVs. Cooking by propane.

Fit-out followed at nearby Hoo Mill by Engineering and Canal services, the successors to the Richard Wilmington business, with most of the work being done by his boat fitter who had stayed on. Internal lining is in American light oak veneered ply with solid oak trim, Danish oiled, not varnished. External painting by Dave Moseley (a sign writer) in International Paints.

Considerable additions and alterations inevitably followed with most of the work being completed by the owner - a practical Chartered Mechanical Engineer with skills in most trades. The main items included a cratch, bow-prop (mainly for reversing, 5 miles is the record), and a lot of internal storage and oak shelving. The roof was repainted in 2005 and the bow/stern in 2008.

The boat has been dry docked every 2 years or less for blacking, and after shot blasting in 2000, Comastic has been used. On average two anodes have been added at each blacking and there are currently 3 on the port bow….The engine servicing has followed Beta recommendations with up to three 200 hour oil changes some years; full records of all engine-related work done are logged. Last dry-dock and blacking was 2009 and BSS expires 6/10/2013. BW canal/river licence expires end September but boat will be sold with a valid licence.

The boat is available with all cruising equipment, including crockery and pots/pans, engine consumables (oil/air/fuel filters), spares (gearbox, alternator, drive plate, morse cable, bulbs, fittings, sundries), tools, handbooks, instructions, drawings, wiring diagrams, touch-up paint, etc.
No smoking or pets have been allowed on the boat.

Shell construction

Conventional 10:6:4 shell to Mike Haywood Shropshire Union design with reduced draught of 1’-8” instead of standard 2’-0”. Steel doors all round for security, Bow locker for general storage with 2x6kg propane gas cylinders in central locker at front of well deck - flanking lockers for water hoses, mooring pins and anchor chain/warp. Long ‘Josher’ swims bow and stern. Lift-up rear deck for easy weed-hatch and storage. 2’-2” wide rear doors and hatch. Stainless steel water tank.

Additional information

Vendor Statement “We had this boat built in 1997 after a lifetime of holidaying on hired yachts and canal boats. A conventional layout with a fixed double was selected for our personal use with an occasional bed in the lounge for a visitor. Now 13 years on with most of the UK canal and river systems explored, incapacity from old-age and arthritis have limited our use and the ever growing circle of grandchildren demand attention. Inevitably we have bowed to these pressures and sadly decided to sell”

Tiller_girl_main_pic.jpg

Summary

Tiller Girl is built on a Piper shell with a fitout by Scenic Boats. The interior is in a contemporary style in maple and has a light and airy feel. The boat has had little use and is like new. Steps lead from the covered cruiser stern through a hardwood door to the bedroom with fixed double bed with storage above, at the foot of and below the bed. A curtain divides the bedroom from the corridor which passes the separate bathroom with Thetford cassette, vanity unit with inset ceramic basin and shower cubicle with shelves and cupboard alongside. The corridor continues into the galley which is a good size for this length of boat. A gas hob is inset into the black granite-style worktop with double oven below. Opposite, circular stainless steel basin and drainer are inset into the worktop, all of which have black tiled splahbacks. The galley opens out into the saloon with multifuel stove set in a semi-circular hearth with black tiled surround. There are storage cupboards either side of the step which leads up through hardwood doors to the large well-deck. A folding table neatly stores under the gunwale. The boat has a Wilsons cover over the glazed hardwood cratch panel with a matching pram-hood cover over the stern. The saloon is floored in a quality oak-effect laminate with carpet to the corridor and bedroom.  230V is supplied throughout the boat from landline or the Victron Multiplus inverter. The Beta engine has only done 330 hours and the whole boat shows little sign of use. As such it offers a considerable saving on a new build and would make an ideal holiday boat for a couple.
