brokerage – buying

For many, buying a boat is their second most expensive purchase, for some the most expensive! It is not something to be done lightly and this is why we at Aqueduct Brokerage will do all we can to make your purchase as safe and satisfying as possible. As experienced boaters, many of the boats are known to us, either through mooring at the marina or seen in the vicinity over many years. Boats are vetted before being accepted into the brokerage and although the soundness of any boat is your responsibility through having a survey carried out, we will do all we can to ensure the boats are suitable for your intended use.

Boats, like people, are individuals and every one is different. If you are already a boat owner or an experienced hirer you probably already have a good idea of what you want. However if you are new to boating then there will be many strange terms to understand, equipment you are not familiar with and a whole new world to discover. We will help you through the maze and lend you a helping hand wherever you need it.

So what sort of boat do you want? You may have a very specific plan in mind or no idea. Either way, it is important that the type and style of boat fits your intended use. We will be very happy to guide you through the options and help you to establish what sort of boat is going to suit you.

Before you start, have a look at our Boats and Boating pages to familiarise yourself with the options available. Then talk through your thoughts and let us show you a range of boats so you can get a feel for the boats ‘in the flesh’. Many people find they know a boat is the right one as soon as they step aboard, others need help to make up their minds. Whatever your feelings, we are on hand to help you make the right choice.

When you do make your decision, we will make sure your purchase goes as smoothly as possible. All money received is held in a client account and is only passed on to the vendor when we have full agreement of the sale. This includes seeing all relevant documentation and checking the inventory of the boat against what is physically present. We want to ensure that when you take delivery of your boat you know exactly what you are getting with no hidden surprises. In the meantime we will make sure you are familiar with the requirements of boat ownership including licensing, mooring permits and insurance. We also encourage owners to hand over the boat in person so that you have the opportunity to benefit from their experience of the boat.
